 A periodontist is a specialist who deals in diagnosing, preventing, and treating gum diseases. Beyond going to dental school, a periodontist has to undergo training for three years to specialize in conducting restorative and cosmetic procedures where aesthetics and function are prioritized. Periodontists also perform other treatments like scaling and root planing.
